And
Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he
sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.Mk.14:54
I want us to briefly examine the above verse of the
scriptures together. The events in this verse happened during the last days of
Jesus, and there are several lessons we can draw from this singular verse that
will help our lives as we walk with God in this end time.
There are 5 phrases in that verse that summarizes 5 reasons why people who use to be on fire for God become cold.
1. “Following afar off “-
how closely are you to Jesus?
2. “Even into the palace” - don't overestimate your capacity
to handle something in spiritual battle e.g. Tamar, Dinar, and Judah. In
spiritual warfare you don't underestimate your enemy e.g. Goliath, Haman. At
the same time you don't overestimate your strength.
3. “He sat with the
servants” - that is unequal yoke. 2Cor.6:14-18. When you
beginning to interact with unbelievers. Pro.27:19. He sat down with the
servants of the high priests and not with the servants of God.
4. “And warmed himself at the fire” - He was looking for a
physical alternatives to ignite the spiritual fire of God e.g. Samson.
5. “Warmed himself in the fire” - false doctrine. When your doctrine is wrong it is just a
matter of time your life will be wrong.
You must be careful not to allow the events of the last days
to draw you away from the Lord at the crucial hour. Unlike Peter we must not
deny the master for any reason. And if you have denied the Lord for any reason
there is a need to repent and begin afresh with your maker.
