It is always the wish of our father in heaven that we all move forward. Every man born of a woman always look forward to a time of enlargement, increase and a time to launch out into the deep things of life and ministry.
7 And there was a young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family
of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there.
8 And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehemjudah to
sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house
of Micah, as he journeyed.
9 And Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto
him, I am a Levite of Bethlehemjudah, and I go to sojourn where I may find a
place.
10 And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a
father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year,
and a suit of
apparel, and thy victuals. So the Levite went in.
11 And the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the
young man was unto him as one of his sons.
12 And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became
his priest, and was in the house of Micah.
13 Then said Micah, Now know I that the Lord will
do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest. Jdg. 17
In our text,
we were told about a young man out of Beth-lehem- Judah. A man from Beth-lehem-Judah
is not necessarily from the tribe of Levi but this young man has secured for
himself a priesthood, ministry. He had built a relationship with God to the
point of becoming a Levite despite the fact that he may not have been from the
family Levi.
a. The
need to secure a ministry.
We were told that that man was a Levite. He was a man of God in his generation. He had secured something with his walk with God. His is no longer empty. He has something to live his life with. He had grown to become a force to reckon with in the religious circle of his time. He cannot be push aside for lack of substance. He had a training, a skill with which to ply his trade wherever he found himself.

For any man
to secure a place in life there must be something in your hands. You do not
launch out empty.
Peter had a
net to launch out with, Lk.5:1-10 otherwise his launch would not have yielded
anything tangible. He also owns a boat. Above all, he was in a team.
The sons of
prophets did not go to Jordan with empty hands in their quest for enlargement.
They were sons of prophets meaning they have a relationship that has yielded to
sonship. They wanted to enlarge their tent meaning they already have one. They
went to Jordan with instruments i.e. axe head. And they also were a team.

b. The
need to look for a place. Gen.12:1-10
he departed. He did not sit on a spot lamenting his condition. Like Abraham the young man took his journey even though he does not where he was going to and what will befall him.
he departed. He did not sit on a spot lamenting his condition. Like Abraham the young man took his journey even though he does not where he was going to and what will befall him.
He was
looking for a place to dwell and settle. Pro.25:2.
There is a place for
everyman in destiny. Jer.29:11. I challenge you to do everything possible to
find a place in destiny.
It takes
determination and faith to find your place in life. You need determination and
faith to locate your allocation in this life. The young man took a step of
faith not minding what the end result will be. He damned the consequence!
c. At
every junction in your journey people want to know where you are coming from.
People want to know the foundation of your faith. They want to know your history where you are coming from. The world wants to know the level of your Christianity.

The response
of the Young man is an interesting one,” I am a Levite”. I am a child of God, a Christian.
I have secured a ministry in God, I have an assignment from God, I am born
again. Fantastic! That is the testimony of someone who had gotten something in
life.
He first
introduced himself as a child of God before introducing his country of origin.
Many believers are quick to introduce their denomination without introducing
their relationship with God. When we see you what did we see first? Your
denomination’s stickers, armbands, logos, emblems, or banners?
He
introduced his faith first before his certificates and qualifications. He
introduced his belief before his future life ambition. In today’s world,
believers will be quick to introduce their church, pastor, qualifications,
family background, tribe, life ambition, before they start to glossy about
their faith.
To them the
ephemeral things comes first while the spiritual come last. The young Levite
will not do that!
However, he
also made some mistakes in his effort at securing his place in life.

of our fathers
What are his mistakes?
1. He was alone
Not a team
player. He went on a journey alone. It is dangerous to launch out to secure a
place in life alone without the support of others. Put yourself in a team of
like minds. Associate with men and women that can enhance your destiny. It
would be very tough to get to the top without the support of others. Do not be
lone rangers for when trouble arises who will you turn to for help?
Always walk
in a team for it makes success easier to achieve than when alone. Peter would
have sunk with his catch if not for his friends that were around.
2. He went and dwell in a wrong place.
He did not
seek counsel from God before settling down with Micah. He jumped at the first
opportunity. Many a time the first opportunity that appears is not always the
best suitable for the situation.
Do not take
the wrong journey as a result of the hunger in the land. Do not enter into a
wrong relationship as result of delay and frustration.
3. He became a hireling when he was supposed
to be a shepherd.
His price
was a package of three elements – money, apparel (clothe) and food. Jdg.18:4.
Because of money, clothe and food the levite went in
-
He
went in into idolatry
-
He
went in into slavery
-
He
went in to dwell with an unbeliever.
He was
bought with silver and gold. This is prominent in our days.
4. He traded away the life of God for another
thing.
He was
consecrated by Micah. He lost his real consecration. So many believers are like
this young man. They have lost their consecration and are now gone into
idolatry. Many Christians are now practicing witchcraft and occultism in the
name of worship and prayer. There is now man worship in many place of worship.
Micah
changed his language. He changed his mode of worship. He changed his food. He
also changed his look.
Friends, the
story of this young man was an example for you and I to learn from. We could
not hear much about his exploits in life because of the wrong steps he took
early in his journey of life.
We must
however be careful not to fall into the same mistakes this young Levite fell
into.
